It’s August and it’s HOT!

A message from your Chief Eyewear Optician

When it’s hot outside, it’s SO much hotter INSIDE your car!

I researched “How hot does the inside of a car get?” and the results were terrifying.

Temperatures in the metroplex are hoovering 100 degrees frequently and this means the heat quickly escalates to 120 -130 & beyond inside your vehicle. This is clearly dangerous for children and pets, and it isn’t safe for your spectacles either. Most lenses have some type of exterior coating. It may be a hard coat which improves scratch resistance or an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare. These excessive temperature shifts will cause lenses to expand and contract resulting in fracturing or “crazing” of the lenses and their coatings.  Lenses will appear to be foggy, warped, or even spider webbed. It is important not to leave eyeglasses in your hot car to protect them as well as your frame. Manufacturer scratch warranties DO NOT cover lenses that were neglected. When a lens/coating is crazed, it is usually from exposure to extreme heat or a chemical of sorts and is considered neglect.  Please, keep your kids, pets and eyewear safe!
